“Around the time my grandpa passed away I just knew I couldn’t continue to settle for a career that wasn’t fulfilling.
For my first three years of college I studied mechanical engineering, and I was sitting in classes hearing about heat transfer and thermodynamics.
I just didn’t have a passion for it. I wasn’t fulfilling my purpose.
But people were giving me little hints here and there.
I had a job mentoring freshmen, and they would say I was doing a good job and really connected with them. Some of them looked at me like a big brother.
This is my sixth year as a math teacher.
People think of teaching as a fallback career. But if you’re a real teacher you want to be the best.”
