President Joe Biden is slated to sign an executive order today “to secure the border,” an action which he has failed to do since he came into office.

Four years into the worst national security crisis the U.S. has faced since 9/11, the president now hints that he actually can do something to secure the border, only he refuses to admit that it is his policies that got us where we are today.

Immediately upon taking office, President Biden undid every measure on border security taken by former President Donald Trump. While taking these executive actions, Biden remarked, “I’m not making new law. I’m eliminating bad policy.”

Yet under his policies, we have broken records for illegal entries every year. Those broken records including border apprehensions, encounters of aliens on the FBI Terror Watchlist, encounters with aliens of special interest, and encounters with migrants from more nations than we’ve ever seen at our southwest border, as well as increased encounters at our northern border. To accompany that, we’ve also seen an increase in criminal alien crime across the nation.

In January, Biden claimed “I’ve done all I can do” to secure the border, while simultaneously demanding “just give me the power.” He seems to be unaware that current law already gives the president authority to restrict entries at the border.

But 8 U.S.C. § 1182(f) provides: Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. Another provision, 8 U.S.C. § 1185(a)(1), allows the President to restrict the entry of aliens according to “such reasonable rules, regulations, and orders, and subject to such limitations and exceptions as the President may prescribe.”

Let’s not overlook the obvious. Anything the Biden regime does now is election year political theater. It does not care to achieve real security or to attempt to clean up the mess it has made since January 2021. If so, it would have done so already. The president could have kept in place and strengthened Trump-era border security policies. The Senate could have passed H.R. 2, which the House passed in May 2023.

Border security has become the No. 1 issue for Americans from coast to coast, and the president is feeling that heat as the November election draws near. Don’t forget that as a senator, Joe Biden voted for the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and he even called out corruption in Mexico, priding himself in being one of the few Democrats to take such a stance.

The bottom line up front is that President Biden has failed, his administration has failed, and Congress has failed. Americans in every state are suffering due to the lack of national security at our borders, and every city is facing a grave public safety threat.

Whatever the president does today is an attempt to secure his increasingly unlikely reelection. But Americans are waking up to the orchestrated disaster unfolding every day, and they are tired of a weak, authoritarian government that does not serve the interests of our citizens and our sovereignty.

The time for real action has long passed, and the time for this president is coming to a swift end. Today’s executive order will not reverse four years of failure.
