The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has just updated its superintendent salary database, revealing some eye-popping new detail about public executive compensation.

According to TEA’s latest salary data, there were approximately 1,200 superintendent positions in Texas during the 2024-25 school year, which were either filled in a full-time or part-time capacity. For full-time administrators, the median superintendent salary was slightly above $176,000, or roughly $100,000 more than the median household income.

Among the top 25 highest paid superintendents, the average base pay totaled $407,739. For context, the President of the United States’s salary is $400,000 per year while the Texas Governor’s pay is only $153,750 annually.

The highest paid superintendent in Texas was employed by Victoria ISD, where his pay totaled $565,047. This amount excludes the value of any bonuses and benefits, like healthcare, retirement, allowances, or other supplements. The average actual teacher salary in Victoria ISD was $51,901 for the 2023-24 school year.

The full-time superintendents receiving the next highest pay were located in: Barbers Hill ISD ($489,143); Tomball ISD ($469,638); Lake Travis ISD ($468,296); Cypress-Fairbanks ISD ($458,908); and Garland ISD ($457,447).
