“Democracy dies in darkness” according to the Washington Post. Journalists hang their hat on shedding light on what those in power are hiding, unless of course Joe Biden is in charge, then they intentionally stumble through the dark. Over the past couple of weeks, CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson have been on a press tour for their book “Original Sin,” detailing the cover-up of President Joe Biden’s mental decline. They’ve made appearances on everything from Megyn Kelly to CNN and MSNBC detailing the great lengths the Biden White House went through to hide the addled president’s decline.
But from pretty much the day he won the Democratic nomination in 2020, anyone with two working eyes could see that Joe Biden was a step slow and losing it a little bit. But from the outset, the mainstream media was determined to convince the American public to not believe their lying eyes—whether it was a verbal gaffe, like confusing current French President Emmanuel Macron with former French President Francois Mitterand (who died in 1996), or a physical one like when he needed to be led off the stage by President Obama at a fundraiser. The CNNs and MSNBCs of the world were quick to parrot White House talking points and condemn anyone sharing videos that they deemed “cheap fakes.” Joe Scarborough claimed last year that this was the best version of Joe Biden ever, and Jake Tapper was there on CNN just ignoring all these obvious signs of decline on his show and happily regurgitating whatever the White House told him. It wasn’t until Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance made the coverup too obvious that the façade came down.
That’s what makes this book tour so disgusting to me. Tapper, Thompson and the likes of people such as Chuck Todd are acting as if they’re victims, just like the American people are. Members of the media neglected their duty to ask questions for four years, and somehow the Biden White House pulled a fast one on them. That narrative is at best naïve, and at worst straight up lying. They were complicit in this coverup of Joe Biden’s decline, they told people that Joe Biden just had a stutter and that behind the scenes he was doing backflips and cartwheels and leading complex policy discussions.
The media showed their true colors by simply going along with the program because they wanted to keep Biden and the Dems in power. Jake Tapper said on Megyn Kelly’s show that “conservative media was right.” But there shouldn’t need to be “conservative media” and “liberal media,” it should just be the media. Yet it exists precisely because Jake Tapper and Joe Scarborough and so many others were so desperate to stay in the good graces of the White House, that they refused to do their actual job and told the American people to not trust their lying eyes.
So, when I see Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson now talking about the “politburo” that ran the Biden White House, a thing that anyone with a pulse could see had been happening for years, I just roll my eyes in disgust. They’re doing this now to (1) make money for their book and (2) because it’s no longer an election year.
And it’s safe to kick Joe Biden while he’s down because there’s no risk of pushback from the DNC or liberals in general. Notice how their book doesn’t touch on how media members were giving the Biden administration scripted questions that the president would hold on notecards.
This whole press tour should tell you everything you need to know about the mainstream media and those in it. The people who claim “democracy dies in darkness” are also going on TV and saying they were just innocent bystanders and were lied to. It’s an insult to every American’s intelligence and it’s the reason why trust in the media has been on a downward trajectory.
