Davidson: [The GAO report] casts doubt on whether the Obama administration really thought out how the Affordable Care Act would work, or whether it work at all, or whether that was really a priority in passing the law in the first place.
Davidson: At the heart of the contraception-mandate debate is a question that has little to do with health insurance or contraceptives and everything to do with the scope of government regulation.
Davidson: The goal was to look closely at what Obamacare is doing to the baseline price of insurance premiums, under the assumption that over-regulation drives up costs, which subsidies only serve to hide. They found this was in fact the case.
Davidson: But of course Ehrlich was wrong then, and his ideological heirs are wrong now. We can adapt and in fact we are adapting "Ó and doing a fine job of it, it turns out.
Davidson: You can dress up an entitlement health care program to look like a private, consumer-driven plan and call it whatever you want, but they are not and never will be the same.
Davidson: We should not kid ourselves about this: if Obamacare saves lives, it will do so at a terrible cost"Óultimately, the kind of economic independence that makes liberty possible.
Davidson on Obamacare: There's an assumption that if you've enrolled, you're going to pay. The Rice [University] report does not seem to make the distinction between enrolling and paying.
Davidson: "Coverage on the exchange is very expensive, and it's expensive even if you get a subsidy, in many cases.
