There is much to remain positive about in the Lone Star State despite recently slower job creation. The 84th Texas Legislature should take steps to limit spending, reduce regulation, and cut taxes so that the success of the Texas model will continue to benefit all Texans.
While the final package will likely not reach this ultimate goal, as noted by Senate and House leaders, it would appropriately place most of the cuts toward the margin tax enhancing the future of Texas’ prosperity, and setting it on a path to further championing tax policy.
The state’s leadership has stated their ultimate goal is to eliminate this tax though it’s not happening this session. This transformational policy would make Texas a leader for America—and even the world—in tax policy.
While the TPP may not be a perfect agreement, as Congress may give too much discretion to the president to fast-track this deal, more free trade along with the Panama Canal project could help take Texas and the nation to the next level of economic opportunity

There’s much to accomplish during the remaining weeks of the 84th Texas Legislature. Fortunately, if legislators hold state funds — and all funds below population growth plus inflation, to provide a conservative budget and follow through on significant tax cuts — Texans will be the winner this session.
In the waning days of the 2015 Texas Legislative Session, the Conference Committee is in the process of resolving differences the two chambers’ versions of the 2016-17 Texas budget before sine die on June 1. Though much could happen before then, there is a good opportunity for legislators to pass a conservative budget.
