Today, the Senate approved House amendments to SB 1788 by Sen. Florence Shapiro. The bill would create a statewide virtual school network through which a school district may offer electronic courses to students of a different district.

Earlier this week, the Senate approved HB 3485 by Rep. Susan King, which deals with career and technology education. The bill incorporates three recommendations from Foundation education policy analyst Brooke Terry’s paper on the issue:

* Rewriting, updating, and increasing the rigor of the curriculum;

* Increasing the transferability of CTE credits to two- and four-year colleges and universities; and

* Encouraging students to take personal responsibility in the development of a graduation plan that helps them meet their career goals.
