A new Gallup poll out today suggests that a majority of Americans think the federal government is too big and wields too much power.

According to the poll, 54 percent of the poll’s respondents agreed with the sentiment that “the government is trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses.” Though this is down slightly from 61 percent polled earlier this year, the percentage of Americans concerned about big government still outranks the percentage of Americans (39 percent) who believe that “the government should do more to solve the nation’s problems.

What’s more, the Gallup poll also found that 51 percent of respondents thought the government wielded too much power, while just 40 percent thought it had about the right amount and 8 percent thought it had too little power.
