The new information comes courtesy of the city of Austin which, in response to a Public Information Act (PIA) request sent last month, provided the homeless strategy officer’s latest employment contract. While city officials have yet to fulfill the PIA request in full (the portion outstanding seeks: “Any bonuses paid to Dianna Gray, the city’s Homeless Strategy Officer since her tenure began”), the information gained is illuminating. It depicts a generous compensation package complete with a robust salary, a defined benefit pension plan, subsidized healthcare, pre-paid professional counseling services, incentive pay, and more.
Clearly, it pays to work for the city. But given the condition of the city, one has to wonder: Are taxpayers getting their money’s worth?
