The workgroup numbers for the Texas State Board of Education are finally out, and they reveal a historic milestone for our state’s education system. As the SBOE moves toward the completion of this monumental process, it is clear that they have assembled a team with more history experts and more frontline Texas teachers than ever before. Our amazing Texas teachers, those who understand our children and our heritage, are the ones steering the ship. The SBOE has already laid the groundwork with a comprehensive outline of topics and subtopics, and this Wednesday, February 25, they will meet to finalize this critical foundation. The workgroups took the great work from the Content Advisors and meticulously review the materials to ensure it meets the high standards Texans expect.

While the vast majority of these participants are amazing Texas teachers dedicated to excellence, we must remain vigilant because a few individuals are still attempting to subvert this great work. This Wednesday’s meeting is the final battle for the soul of our classrooms. It is here that the SBOE will finalize a social studies curriculum that shapes what millions of Texas children learn about America. Texas is leading the nation by implementing a chronological history framework that tells the full, unfiltered story of how America became exceptional. This framework does something radical in today’s age: it tells the truth. It embraces the good, the true, and the beautiful about our past, which is precisely why it has become a target.

This curriculum is under heavy attack from radical activist groups who are bussing in speakers to kill these standards before they can take root. These are the same coordinated forces that push Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project while working tirelessly to erase Christianity from our nation’s founding. We are witnessing the work of the “Red-Green Alliance” in real-time. This unholy union brings together the “Red” of Marxism, which seeks to divide our children into oppressors and oppressed while teaching them that liberty is a lie, and the “Green” of Islamism, a political ideology that rejects the supremacy of our Constitution and the separation of church and state. Though they come from different origins, their objective is identical: they want to rewrite our history to weaken America from within, believing our children are easy targets to reshape.

Leading this charge of radical opposition are organizations like the Texas Council for the Social Studies, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). These groups are the primary obstacles to a chronological curriculum that honors our heritage. They prefer a fragmented, politicized version of history that serves their own agendas rather than the truth. As this process nears its conclusion, it is vital that we stand behind the SBOE and the patriotic teachers in these workgroups who are fighting to ensure that Texas children receive an education rooted in the exceptional reality of our great country.
