It’s Not Easy Being a Mom
What to know: On Mother’s Day, the Trump administration launched moms.gov, a new website filled with resources for mothers and families.
The TPPF take: Motherhood isn’t an easy job.
“Motherhood is a discipline—one that is rigorous, formative, and can be profoundly undervalued in our cultural conversation,” says TPPF’s Hannah Bruck. “That’s what it means to give your time and attention to someone so fully that the goal is their departure. That is the paradox at the heart of motherhood: To succeed is to be, in some sense, left behind.”

More Than $1,200 Per Day
What to know: Following a state takeover of Beaumont ISD, the failing school district has just hired a new acting superintendent at a cost of “more than $1,200 a day.” This new official will also receive a $10,000 relocation allowance.
The TPPF take: Education elites are getting rich. Taxpayers are getting robbed.
“Public school superintendents are some of the highest paid people in Texas and yet, academic performance is subpar, student enrollment is in decline, and property taxes are through the roof. There’s something terribly off with this situation,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Taxpayers need the Texas Legislature to step in and advance some reasonable protections.”

Sex Crimes
What to know: Only a small percentage of sexual assaults are prosecuted, statistics show.
The TPPF take: Local governments are failing sexual assault victims. Law enforcement needs state support.
“Victims in our great state are not getting the resources and justice they so desperately need,” says TPPF’s Ross Jackson. “With greater resources, departments from Houston to San Antonio to El Paso can better serve their communities by solving violent and sexual crimes, holding perpetrators accountable, and giving victims the justice they deserve.”
