A Bold Step Toward Lower Health Care Costs

What to know: Yesterday, President Trump called on Congress to enact “The Great Healthcare Plan.”

The TPPF take: President Trump’s proposed plan is a bold leap to restore agency and control to patients when it comes to their healthcare.

“This plan represents a significant moment in the effort to make health care more affordable, understandable, and accountable to everyday Americans,” said TPPF’s Dr. Cliff Porter. “For too long, opaque pricing, confusing billing, and hidden markups have allowed hospitals and insurers to drive up costs. A lack of price transparency contributes to rising health care costs and leaves consumers with little to no ability to shop for care.”

Two Movies, One Screen?

What to know: The late Scott Adams coined a term, “two movies on one screen” to describe the very different narratives that can emerge from a single politicized incident. That’s what’s happening in Minnesota now, following the shooting death of Renee Good by an ICE agent she was attempting to run down.

The TPPF take: Narratives around the shooting have further divided America.

“America’s raw confrontation with the clips posted online overwhelmed many,” says TPPF’s Cameron Abrams. “Rather than waiting for context and suspending judgment, viewers were pulled through a wormhole of images that demanded immediate moral resolution. There was no watching, waiting, and then reacting. In our fractured information landscape, a loss in our shared understanding of justice has been exposed.”

School Choice in Texas

What to know: Families will soon be able to apply for Texas Education Freedom Accounts.

The TPPF take: School choice is finally coming to Texas.

“Eligible Texas children can receive public funds deposited into a personalized account to be used for approved education expenses,” says TPPF’s Brian Phillips. “These include private school tuition, textbooks, tutoring, specialized therapies, transportation to approved providers, online courses, and career or technical education programs. Applications open February 4, 2026. In the meantime, a broad coalition of activists, parents, and organizations are helping to spread the word so that parents can start getting ready to apply now.”
