A Common Sense Policy

What to know: The White House on Monday renewed a public health order—Title 42—that allows the Border Patrol to turn migrants back at the border over COVID-19 concerns.

The TPPF take: This is a win, but the Biden administration must now do a better job of enforcing the order.

“We need to enforce Title 42 as the Trump administration did, stop the dangerous insanity and secure the border once and for all,” says Congressman Chip Roy, R-Texas. “Most importantly, we need a revival in the understanding of who we are as Americans. We need to stand up and demand a secure border now.”

It’s Unnatural

What to know: More and more states and cities are attempting to ban natural gas in homes and businesses.

The TPPF take: The Texas Legislature recently passed a new law banning such bans.

“Communities are waking up to the fact that natural gas bans are harming minorities, and Texas leaders heeded these warnings,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “While these policies satisfy environmental groups and political constituencies that lobby our city councils, recent polling shows that nearly 70% of Texans oppose them.”

Backpedaling

What to know: The Biden administration is working to undo some of President Trump’s reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act.

The TPPF take: Trump’s NEPA reforms were sensible and good for the nation.

“The Trump administration’s reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act were a critical step toward reducing draconian regulations on our nation’s infrastructure development — restoring limited government and removing unneeded delays, complexities, and burdens,” says former Texas Governor and U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry. “What’s worse than unraveling these reforms is that the Biden Administration deliberately sidestepped federal transparency rules, violating the public’s trust in their race to undo the Trump-era policies that helped propel America to record economic growth and energy dominance.”
