A Record Year

What to know: This has already been a record year for parent empowerment, as more and more states allow parents to choose the best education for their children.

The TPPF take: Is 2023 the year for parent empowerment in Texas?

“Once parents are empowered with real choices, schools respond with new programs, improved curriculum, and a renewed focus on the quality of the education they are providing students,” says TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “School choice is the catalyst that encourages everyone to become better and more efficient.”

Lost Students

What to know: U.S. public schools “lost” more than 1 million students in 2020, Forbes reports. Where did they go? Their parents found sought educational alternatives that better suited their children.

The TPPF take: One size never fits all. That’s especially true in education.

“Like all children, students with disabilities deserve the opportunity to flourish. But in a nation where education has been designed around the ‘average’ student—rather than tailored to individuals—that hasn’t been happening,” says Tiffany Barfield, Government Affairs Director for yes. every kid, writing for The Cannon Online. “Perpetuating this one-size-fits-all approach, as some suggest, won’t help.”

Willow

What to know: The Biden administration allowed the Willow drilling project to proceed. But at the same time, the administration announced further restrictions on U.S. oil and gas.

The TPPF take: We shouldn’t celebrate the Willow decision as a win.

“Don’t take this as a change of heart, in terms of a change in policy,” said TPPF’s Robert Henneke on Fox & Friends First. “There’s just more anti-energy, anti-American oil and gas policies from the Biden administration.”
