A Win for Parents

What to Know: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s strong showing in his reelection campaign is a good sign for parents; Abbott has clearly signaled his support for parent empowerment, and allowing families to choose the best educational options for their children.

The TPPF Take: This is a win for parents throughout Texas.

“We applaud Governor Abbott’s support for empowering parents with a strong voice in how their children receive an education,” says TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “Students should not be stuck in government assigned schools that don’t meet their needs. The governor’s focus on transparency, high quality public and private schools, along with respect for parents and their wishes, will ensure Texas is the freest, most prosperous, and best educated state in the country.”

The Sunshine State

What to Know: Likewise, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also cruised to reelection.

The TPPF Take: DeSantis’ winning message was all about rolling back woke ideology.

“DeSantis is showing us states can stand up to woke culture, woke corporations and a woke Congress,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “In just one month, he has signed three bills into law that severely limit the progressive ideology plaguing our nation. Texas may compete with Florida for corporate relocations, new residents and business startups, but it’s a friendly rivalry. We’ll be in the stands, rooting for Florida and freedom.”

Offshore Wind Woes

What to Know: New research shows that offshore wind transmission cables impact marine wildlife. Haddock larvae, for example, are slowed by the magnetic fields the cables generate, making them easy prey.

The TPPF Take: Renewable energy isn’t a panacea.

“Though the liberal wing is quick to jump on any and every potential environmental impact of a proposed subdivision or fracking well, its silence on offshore wind’s threat to our country’s precious natural beauty is deafening,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Americans overwhelmingly want affordable, reliable electricity and environmental quality. Embracing the fossil fuels that have helped our nation become prosperous and a world leader in clean air is the best solution for all.”
