A Win For Texans

What to know: Gov. Greg Abbott has signed SB 1, the election integrity bill, into law.

The TPPF take: It was a hard-fought victory.

“The bill not only includes many measures to secure the sanctity of the ballot box, such as voter ID for mail-in ballots, but also includes other measures to make voting easier, such as expanded early voting hours,” says TPPF’s Chad Ennis. “This was a long but worthwhile effort for lawmakers.”

Fighting Back

What to know: The business community is fighting back against the Biden administration’s $3.5 trillion spending plan.

The TPPF take: Congress should reject the reckless spending spree.

“President Biden and congressional Democrats have proposed roughly $6 trillion in new spending over a decade of hard-earned taxpayer dollars,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn. “To put it bluntly, this reckless spending will destroy America’s fiscal and economic institutions by pushing us toward insolvency, dependency, and insanity.”

Inflation is Real

What to know: Inflation is hitting consumers—hard.

The TPPF take: Inflation is much worse than Washington seems willing to admit.

“For inflation to end and for prices to stabilize, the Fed needs to drastically scale back (and perhaps even cease) its purchases of Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities,” says TPPF’s E.J. Antoni. “Interest rates must be allowed to float freely, and a reserve requirement should be reinstated to ensure banking institutions maintain a reasonably safe quantity of deposits on hand.”
