American Pride
What to know: Pride in being American has slipped to an all-time low, with Democrats leading the way, new polls show.
The TPPF take: Only 36% of Democrats say they are extremely or very proud to be Americans.
“Did these folks miss the news last week when America’s B-2 Bombers ended a decades-old threat of nuclear war in the Middle East, and virtually all of Europe finally delivered a big thank you to the United States for NATO protections since World War II?” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Still, 92% of Republicans are proud to be Americans.”

Commerce Clause
What to know: Farmer Roscoe Filburn challenged the federal government, and the 1942 Supreme Court case that came out of his fight, Wickard v. Filburn, is “one of the worst” decisions in recent history.
The TPPF take: TPPF attorneys have filed the case that could take down the Filburn decision.
“To this day, the federal government uses these cases to assert a nearly limitless sweep of power. The Commerce Clause has become a catch-all justification for thousands of federal laws and regulations,” says TPPF’s Clayton Calvin. “Agricultural production? Interstate commerce. Public health? Interstate commerce. Obscure spider species? Interstate commerce. Real estate disclosures? Also, somehow, interstate commerce.”

Hit the Road
What to know: It’s time to hit the road, America; gas prices are down and it’s a great time to see the country.
The TPPF take: America is worth rediscovering. We recommend Route 66, which passes through the Texas panhandle.
“There’s something about Route 66 that rises above the everyday and even the political,” says TPPF’s Roy Maynard. “People get along here because they’ve come to connect to something bigger. People don’t visit Route 66 to change America; they come to be changed by it.”
