An End to Lawfare

What to know: Writing for CNN, law professor Jonathan Turley says that President-elect Donald Trump will end the “lawfare” waged by the previous administration—which has resulted in a two-tiered system of justice in America.

The TPPF take: The Biden-Harris administration weaponized the Justice Department against its political foes. It’s time to end that.

“The broader effect of politicized prosecutions is clear — Americans have been increasingly convinced we live in a nation with a two-tiered justice system,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “That’s what Americans learned from the prosecution of Trump for the alleged mishandling of classified documents, while Biden (like Hillary Clinton before him) got a pass for the same thing. And the list goes on.”

A Wrong Note

What to know: The golden-cheeked warbler is blocking some development in Central Texas, based on the species’ “endangered” status. But is the bird truly endangered?

The TPPF take: The bird’s status was supposed to be reevaluated nearly a decade ago, by order of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“The Fish and Wildlife Service’s refusal to comply with the Fifth Circuit’s order is inexplicable and is hands-down illegal,” says TPPF’s Ted Hadzi-Antich.  “The Service has to comply with the law just like the rest of us, and this lawsuit will show the Service that it cannot with impunity thumb its nose at federal court orders.”

Remembering

What to know: Lest it pass by unremarked, Nov. 7 was Victims of Communism Day.

The TPPF take: TPPF’s Austin Prochko writes about a friend of his family’s, in Prague during the Cold War.

“In Texas and some other states across America, Nov. 7 is observed as Victims of Communism Day,” Austin writes. “This Victims of Communism Day, I think of the brave men and women like Professor Svoboda who, even if their actions may not have been dramatic or revolutionary, in their own way stood up against communist regimes and paid the price.”
