Don’t You Hate Reruns?

What to know: The script is written; liberals in Texas will again declare that all election reform efforts are driven by racism.

The TPPF take: The truth is that voter fraud exists; whether or not it is “widespread” doesn’t matter one bit. Every illegal vote robs the voice of a legitimate Texas voter.

“Any new law offered by Republicans in the special session will do two things,” says TPPF’s Chad Ennis. “First, it will rein in the making-it-up-as-we-go abuses of Harris County during the pandemic, when established voting rules were thrown out the window. And second, it will add voter ID requirements for mail-in ballots. The script that liberals will follow over the next few weeks has been carefully crafted to mislead Texans. It won’t work.”

We Call This Summer in Texas

What to know: Global warming celebrated its 33rd birthday as an “existential threat” last week.

The TPPF take: Weren’t we all supposed to be dead by now?

“By essentially every measurement, the condition of humanity is strong and our future is brighter than ever,” says TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “On the climate, the news is similarly good. Although sensationalized reports about global warming usually present a stark future — ‘12 years left to live!’ — and scary images of burning forests, these attention-grabbing headlines aren’t based on sound science. Former Obama energy official Steven Koonin describes the media and activist groups’ understanding of climate as ‘drifting so far out of touch with the actual science as to be absurdly, demonstrably false.’”

Making Progress

What to know: Louisiana’s spring legislative session has ended.

The TPPF take: Louisiana lawmakers made significant progress on criminal justice reform issues.

“It is fitting that the first bill to cross the finish line this session was HR17 by Rep. Stephanie Hilferty proclaiming National Crime Victims’ Week in Louisiana,” says TPPF’s Scott Peyton. “Additionally, Right on Crime was appointed as a member of the Survivor Informed Task Force in SCR45 by Sen. Patrick McMath. These policies support the conservative principle that victims must be prioritized by the justice system.”
