Back Door Amnesty

What to know: The Biden administration has been caught effectively offering amnesty for hundreds of thousands of immigrants who are claiming asylum—allowing them to remain in the country.

The TPPF take: Mass amnesty isn’t the answer to the Biden border crisis.

“The solution most Americans are looking for is to secure the border to protect our national security and develop a sane and timely immigration system that ensures officials know who is coming in and out of the country,” says TPPF’s Brian Phillips. “But the explosion of illegal immigration during the Biden administration—estimated 6 to 9 million—is starting to change opinion about the urgency and efficacy of deportation.”

No Dissent

What to know: President Joe Biden says that former President Donald Trump’s remarks about Trump’s conviction on 34 charges in a New York trial are “dangerous” and “reckless.”

The TPPF take: Biden doesn’t realize that he’s the one on trial now.

“Even though he got the guilty verdict against Trump that he wanted, he still has to explain the high cost of living, the border invasion, inflation and a couple of very awful wars that have happened on his watch,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “The verdict will super-charge Trump into hyper-campaign mode, and no one who is paying attention would bet against Trump.”

Out of Gas

What to know: A group of Republican senators is demanding answers from the Biden administration about its potentially illegal rules that give electric vehicles seven times as many regulatory credits as their true fuel economy would dictate.

The TPPF take: The true cost of electric vehicles is far higher than the asking price. Just as environmental advantages are overstated, real costs are underreported.

“Much has been written about the $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs and tax breaks for domestic battery manufacturing, but our research shows that regulatory credits are the biggest subsidy for EVs, an average of $27,881 per vehicle,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “This is primarily because EVs are being given a 6.67 multiplier to their rated fuel economy under the federal standards, so that an EV with a rated fuel economy of 100 miles per gallon is credited as if it is getting 667 miles per gallon.
