Bias

What to know: NPR’s CEO once called President Donald Trump a “deranged racist sociopath.” But she still claims that NPR is not biased.

The TPPF take: Elitist public media sources do not reflect the American people—which wouldn’t be a problem if they were a private company, but public broadcasting is taxpayer funded.

“The fight isn’t really about money; it’s about progressives wanting an official broadcasting tool to misinform the country,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “NPR persistently reported that any discussion about the origin of COVID-19 was racist, that President Trump colluded with Russia to win in 2016, and that Hunter Biden’s laptop was not an actual news story.”

Not With Our Dollars

What to know: Local school districts use taxpayer dollars to lobby the Legislature.

The TPPF take: This is taxpayer-funded nonsense.

“Using tax dollars to fund lobbyists is wasteful, needless, and violates basic principles of limited government,” says TPPF’s Brian Phillips. “According to a January poll, more than 80% say tax dollars should not fund lobbyists. It’s hard to get 80% of Texans to agree on much, so this should be a sign to policymakers that eliminating this taxpayer-funded boondoggle is a win-win.”

Empowering Parents

What to know: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he has the votes to pass a bill empowering Texas families with school choice.

The TPPF take: It’s time to enact school choice in Texas.

“School choice is the civil rights movement of our time,” says TPPF’s Richard Johnson. “Few things matter more to parents than ensuring their children have a high-quality education that equips them with the tools and experiences necessary to succeed. It is time for Texas to give poor and working class families the assistance they need to send their children to the school of their choice.”
