Bluebonnets are Beautiful

What to know: Texas school districts that used the Texas Education Agency’s new Bluebonnet curriculum not only saw academic gains, they also saved money.

The TPPF take: The new curriculum has proven to be a benefit for Texas students — despite the critics.

“Since the incredible new Bluebonnet Curriculum has been given the green light, there have been dozens of stories that Texas public schools do not teach about slavery and that they force students to embrace Christianity,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Neither is true.”

Learning to Fly

What to know: Two pilots are suing the FAA over its rules against charitable flights.

The TPPF take: Those pilots are being represented by TPPF attorneys.

“The consequences of these FAA rules extend far beyond regulatory red tape,” says TPPF’s Eric Oldfather. “When volunteer pilots must personally absorb hundreds of dollars in expenses and charitable organizations face unnecessary administrative hurdles, fewer pilots may be available to help patients get the medical care they need.”

Healthcare Costs and Burdens

What to know: New TPPF polling shows that only 42% of Texans are satisfied with the value of their health insurance plan, more than two-thirds consider healthcare costs a burden, and 3 out of 4 agree drug prices are too high.

The TPPF take: This polling shows the frustration caused by rising costs and harm our healthcare system and insurance systems have created.

“The solutions are founded in basic economics and American principles restoring individual control over their own healthcare with real options, along with putting physicians and healthcare professionals back in charge of medical care,” says TPPF’s Dr. Cliff Porter. “The Texas legislature can go a long way to improve healthcare by addressing the anticompetitive and monopolistic business practices, as well as the improper control of insurance and corporate bureaucracies that exploit healthcare and keep prices high.”
