California Dreaming

What to Know: California is asking its residents to keep their air conditioners at higher temps, and to refrain from charging their electric vehicles.

The TPPF Take: Wait, didn’t California just announce that every vehicle had to be electric (or some green alternative that hasn’t yet been invented) by 2035? This week’s grid problems show just how unrealistic California’s new mandate is.

“California only has 600,000 electric vehicles on the road today, out of 20 million or so,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “If they ban internal combustion engines, you’re looking at some 2 million new electric vehicles a year. And they can’t even handle 600,000. People are constantly underestimating the enormous amount of electricity needed to make this happen.”

Biden’s Border Crisis

What to Know: Border Patrol agents made the largest cocaine bust in 20 years this week, finding nearly $12 million worth of the drug at a checkpoint near Laredo.

The TPPF Take: This emboldened drug smuggling is the result of President Biden’s border policies.

“The fact is that if we open the southern U.S. border, the land just a few yards away, across the Rio Grande, is still 100% controlled by Mexican drug cartels,” says TPPF’s Greg Sindelar. “Our change in policy won’t suddenly cause them to change their ways and give up the money they’re making from human trafficking and the drug trade.”

Harmful to Minors

What to Know: Big Tech could be the next Big Tobacco—with protections for minors.

The TPPF Take: Even Big Tech executives acknowledge that social media is harmful to minors.

“The solution is simple: Prohibit minors from using social media,” says TPPF’s Zach Whiting. “While Congress endlessly debates how to best tackle this crisis, Texas doesn’t need to sit on its hands and wait. The time for action was years ago. Texas must attach an age limit to social media, while also holding companies accountable that fail to follow the rules.”
