Child Slavery

What to know: A whistleblower tells Congress that migrant children are being handed over to human traffickers—by the federal government. Many end up in forced labor and sex work.

The TPPF take: The Biden administration’s mismanaged migrant sponsor program sends children into slavery.

“Under the cartels and America’s careless administration, children are used and abused in the sex trade until they are reduced to nothing,” says TPPF’s Carol Swain. “Other children and young adults are being forced into the grueling labor of meatpacking, agricultural, and hospitality jobs. America’s unaccompanied and unchaperoned minors are a bonanza for human traffickers.”

Deaths of Despair

What to know: The fentanyl overdose crisis in San Francisco, particularly among the city’s homeless, has gotten so bad that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling in the National Guard.

The TPPF take: California’s problems are of its own making; the flawed “Housing First” policy ignores the underlying issues behind homelessness and overdose deaths.

“The vacuum of accountability in today’s homeless system — from the individual level to the non-profit level to the local government level to his level — is exactly why Newsom won’t see the results he’s demanding,” says TPPF’s Michele Steeb. “Status quo maintenance is the cornerstone of his $16 billion investment in homelessness, and he is certain to achieve it.”

Free Markets

What to know: Texas lawmakers are looking to the free market to bring down housing costs

The TPPF take: Free market reforms are the key to solving Texas’ housing affordability crisis.

“These are types of good government reforms that will ease Texas’ housing affordability crisis and make life better for everyone looking to share in the American Dream,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Now it’s up to the Texas Legislature to make it happen.”
