China Rising

What to know: A report from the U.S. Naval Institute warns about China’s efforts to modernize its navy.

The TPPF take: China’s rising naval dominance threatens U.S. interests.

“China’s decision to become a maritime superpower presents the greatest threat to the U.S. since the British burned down the White House in 1814,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “President Donald Trump and his national security team have recognized the threat and are quickly rising to meet the challenge. The question is whether deterrence can be restored in time to maintain peace in the Pacific.”

Booming

What to know: Trade schools enrollment rates are climbing as young people seek more options and opportunities.

The TPPF take: We can build a strong Texas workforce by investing in Texas State Technical College.

“Texas faces a looming workforce crisis, with projected shortages of 7,000 plumbers, 4,500 HVAC technicians, and 10,000 electricians by 2030,” says TPPF’s Jorge Borrego. “In this shifting landscape, the Texas State Technical College System (TSTC) offers a proven solution: technical training that meets the state’s urgent workforce needs and delivers high-paying jobs with minimal debt.”

Religious Liberty

What to know: President Trump has established a Religious Liberty Commission to enforce our nation’s protections of the free expression of faith. And he’s appointed Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick to chair it.

The TPPF take: Trump is making religious liberty great again.

“In accepting the appointment, Patrick noted that despite America’s great heritage of religious liberty, people of faith were under attack during the four years of the Biden administration,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “He pledged to carry out the president’s mission to ensure that all believers are free to pray and worship God anywhere in this country.”
