Dead Wrong on Crime

What to know: The headlines keep coming: Career criminals, released by progressive district attorneys and liberal judges, continue to kill innocent Americans.

The TPPF take: Democrats are dead wrong on crime.

“Hugs for thugs hasn’t made blue cities safe,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “Letting murderers, rapists and other violent criminals roam the streets makes for a more dangerous city. The Texas response is to address the legal loopholes that allow activist judges to release these miscreants.”

Here Come the Billion Dollar Bonds

What to know: Following the Texas Legislature’s approval of a $10 billion tax cut, many local governments are moving ahead with large rate hikes and big bond elections that erode those promised savings. For example, Richardson ISD is proposing a massive $1.4 billion bond package that threatens “a potential annual property tax increase of $124.”

The TPPF take: The excesses of local government are undoing the Legislature’s work on tax cuts.

“Voters should remember that new debt invites new taxes. And the approval of any new taxes will lessen or undo entirely the tax relief just finalized by the Texas Legislature,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Billion dollar bonds are bad news for anyone hoping to see their tax bill go down next year.”

Absolute Threat

What to know: The screwworm bot fly is making its way closer and closer to Texas; ranchers say this parasite is an “absolute threat.”

The TPPF take: If left unchecked, the screwworm could decimate American cattle, horses, and wildlife.

“Flights to disperse sterile male flies need to be constant and daily,” says TPPF’s Melissa Ford. “Mexico knows this but still imposed restrictions, limiting USDA sterile fly dispersal flights and imposing customs duties on the tools needed for the job, such as plane parts, fly shipments, and dispersal equipment, delaying every aspect of the operation. This is sabotage.”
