Empowering Parents

What to know: Texans gathered in Austin on Tuesday in support of universal school choice.

The TPPF take: Empowering parents to make the key decisions on their children’s educations benefits everyone involved.

“Once parents are empowered with real choices, schools respond with new programs, improved curriculum, and a renewed focus on the quality of the education they are providing students,” says TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “School choice is the catalyst that encourages everyone to become better and more efficient.”

Collateral Damage

What to know: Some members of Congress are asking for answers after the carcasses of numerous North Atlantic right whales have washed ashore near offshore wind projects.

The TPPF take: TPPF attorneys have filed a lawsuit over offshore wind plans that endanger marine wildlife, including the North Atlantic right whale.

“At every stage of wind farm development, these majestic creatures are threatened, starting with the sonar surveys used to map the seabed,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “When the liberal environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council, a coalition of U.S. senators led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and a conservative Texas institute like mine come together to question an ocean-based wind farm project, something must be fishy.”

Eco-Anxiety

What to know: Vice President Kamala Harris says there’s a “mental health crisis” due to climate change.

The TPPF take: The real issue is climate anxiety—caused by apocalyptic predictions.

“Instead of using fear over the most extreme weather scenarios, our media, leaders, parents, and teachers should communicate to our young people the complete story of fossil fuels and the benefits of affordable and reliable energy,” says TPPF’s Syd Lucas. “Energy is the key to human flourishing.”
