Extra Special Total Solar Eclipse Edition!

Moonshadow

What to know: This should come as no surprise to anyone, but today’s total solar eclipse “will briefly limit solar electricity generation across the country,” according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The TPPF take: Who knew the sun doesn’t always shine?

“There’s a reason fossil fuels have always provided the vast majority of our energy and will continue to do so for many, many decades at least,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Quite simply, the wind doesn’t always blow, the sun doesn’t always shine, and battery storage to compensate for Texas’ notoriously fickle weather is incredibly expensive.”

Let the Sun Shine

What to know: “Sunshine,” or open government laws, have helped lead to the indictment of two public school officials for illegal electioneering.

The TPPF take: The state is beginning to take ISD electioneering seriously. That’s a good thing.

“Increasingly, public school districts are putting their collective thumbs on the scale for their favorite political candidate, bond proposition, and even tax increases. These acts violate state law, corrode public trust, and promote corruption. State leaders should use all available tools to make it clear that this illegal activity won’t be tolerated,” says TPPF’s James Quintero.

Here Comes the Sun

What to know: It’s been a long, cold, lonely winter—for families whose educational needs aren’t being met by their local assigned public schools. But Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is shoring up support for parent empowerment in the Legislature, and on the campaign trail.

The TPPF take: It’s time to let Texas parents make the important decisions on their children’s educations, as well.

“Voters are speaking very loudly and very clearly, and they want school choice,” says TPPF’s Mandy Drogin. “And it’s no coincidence that it comes at a time when there’s a shift in conservative politics. Gov. Abbott should be congratulated on his hard work on behalf of candidates who support parent empowerment.”
