False Compassion

What to know: The Dallas Morning News says Texas lawmakers must expand Medicaid this session, in the name of compassion.

The TPPF take: Expanding the flawed Medicaid system would be false compassion.

“A recent study by the Mercatus Center that found, ‘Medicaid expansion may well have had the unintended side effect of causing the perceived needs of adults to be prioritized over those of low-income children,’” says TPPF’s David Balat. “For supporters of Medicaid expansion, signing up all those kids and then adding a million more able-bodied childless adults is enough—completely ignoring that low income children won’t be getting timely care.”

Energy Poverty

What to know: A leading British economist warns that reaching climate goals will require higher taxes—much higher.

The TPPF take: That’s true here, too. Yet currently, more than 20 million American households are struggling to pay their home energy bills.

“Access to affordable, reliable energy has reduced poverty and improved human lives dramatically for two centuries,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “President Biden’s policies are an irrational threat to that prosperity. American families are now experiencing the initial impact of the Left’s war on fossil fuels. Hopefully, it’s enough of a wake-up call to end the insanity.”

Whales and Wind

What to know: A third dead whale was found last week in Virginia, just a few miles from one of two operating offshore wind farms in federal waters.

The TPPF take: TPPF attorneys have filed a lawsuit over offshore wind plans that endanger marine wildlife, including the North Atlantic right whale.

“At every stage of wind farm development, these majestic creatures are threatened, starting with the sonar surveys used to map the seabed,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “When the liberal environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council, a coalition of U.S. senators led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and a conservative Texas institute like mine come together to question an ocean-based wind farm project, something must be fishy.”
