Forever Chemicals Too Close to Home

What to know: Texas state Rep. Helen Kerwin has filed a bill that would regulate the sale, production and use of PFAs, “forever chemicals” that have found their way into the water supplies used by farmers and ranchers.

The TPPF take: Texas farm and ranch land is at risk.

“These chemicals are going into the bio waste plant and then put on trucks and taken down to the farm lands and the ranch lands in Johnson County,” Rep. Kerwin told TPPF’s Greg Sindelar on a recent podcast. “This this has been going on for years. We’ve been asleep at the wheel.”

Blowin’ in the Wind

What to know: Attorneys with the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for the American Future are taking their fight for the fishing industry in New England to the U.S. Supreme Court, challenging the permitting of offshore wind projects.

The TPPF take: Even before President Donald Trump took office, the offshore wind industry was in trouble.

“Costs keep going up, and embarrassing public failures, such as the turbine blade failure at the Vineyard Wind site off Massachusetts, aren’t helping,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “There are good reasons — along with the cost savings — for ending the expensive and disappointing offshore wind debacle.”

It’s Dead

What to know: The Green New Deal is officially dead, says Carla Sands of the America First Policy Institute.

The TPPF take: We dodged a bullet. If you want to know where the Green New Deal would have led, just look at California.

“In 2024, California had the second-highest electricity prices in the nation for the second year running, behind only Hawaii,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “The Golden State’s misguided energy policies have steadily increased the price of electricity as green energy mandates, grid instability and regulatory burdens have taken their toll. Meanwhile, states with more balanced energy policies — natural gas, coal and nuclear power — have fared far better.”
