Here They Come

What to know: One school district is accelerating its plan to pitch voters on a massive $290 million bond “after bills limiting when districts could have elections died in the Texas Legislature.” Expect more local governments to follow suit.

The TPPF take: The failure of key legislation invites local governments to continue behaving badly.

“The 89th Legislature missed an opportunity to enact substantive local debt reforms to promote prudence and protect taxpayers. Without these reforms, school districts seem incentivized to move quickly, borrow big, and worry not about the consequences,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Instituting a local debt limit should be a top goal in 2027.”

Original Sin

What to know: Jake Tapper’s and Alex Thompson’s book on the Biden administration’s efforts to conceal the president’s decline continues to dominate the best sellers lists.

The TPPF take: Tapper and Thompson aren’t victims of the White House’s “Original Sin;” they contributed to the coverup.

“Members of the media neglected their duty to ask questions for four years, and now claim that somehow the Biden White House pulled a fast one on them,” says TPPF’s John Mondi. “That narrative is at best naïve, and at worst straight up lying. They were complicit in this coverup of Joe Biden’s decline. The media showed their true colors by simply going along with the program because they wanted to keep Biden and the Dems in power.”

Mostly Peaceful

What to know: Due to foresight by the governor’s office, the protests held last weekend around the country stayed mostly peaceful in Texas cities.

The TPPF take: Texas was prepared for anything.

“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott deployed over 7,000 Guard troops to Texas cities after they were successful in containing protesters last week, including guarding the Alamo, the Shrine of Texas Liberty, in my hometown of San Antonio,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Most political strategists note that the protests help Trump and increase support for his policies because they focus on immigration, crime and public order—all winning issues for the president.”
