What to know: The Texas Public Utilities Commission will meet today to deliberate the latest planned segment of a high-powered electric transmission line. Lawmakers have asked commissioners to pause until the Legislature can meet.
The TPPF take: Those transmission lines will solve none of the problems with the Texas grid.
“Other plans exist that can increase the supply of reliable generation, reduce the cost to consumers, and lessen the impact of new infrastructure projects,” says TPPF’s Carson Clayton. “Policymakers should pause implementation of the plan and consider alternatives to minimize the cost and impact.”

Teaching the Teachers
What to know: Florida has enacted new rules for teacher preparation programs, in an effort to ensure that teachers aren’t being taught to indoctrinate their students.
The TPPF take: University education programs are at the root of what’s wrong with American education.
“The university preparation programs themselves have set up teachers to fail by jettisoning effective training for ideology and abstract theory,” says TPPF’s Matthew McCormick. “Schools of education are obsessed with special populations. Their goal is not to train student-teachers how to be effective teachers but to convert them into ideological foot soldiers.”

Bonding Out
What to know: Since 2019, more than 200 people allegedly have been murdered by violent criminals that Harris County officials wouldn’t keep in jail.
The TPPF take: Texas’s fragmented bail system lacks oversight, allowing bondsmen to profit while repeat offenders cycle through release with little accountability.
“The bail bond system in Texas serves a crucial purpose: to guarantee the promise of presumed innocence until proven guilty, ensure a defendant’s appearance in court, and to protect the public from further harm,” says TPPF’s Brett Tolman. “However, current regulation is insufficient, inconsistent, and leaves gaps that could endanger public safety.”
