Housing Costs
What to know: Former President Barack Obama called for a “housing market revolution” in his speech to the Democratic National Convention. He wants governments to lead the charge.
The TPPF take: There’s a right way—and a wrong way—to address skyrocketing housing costs.
“President Obama’s exact words were: ‘we need to build more units. “Implied here is a collective responsibility to act, which suggests putting government in charge of building homes and bring down costs. That’s a recipe for disaster,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Socialism isn’t going to solve this problem—only the free-market can.”

That’s Not Good
What to know: Even The Economist, a left-leaning publication, has panned Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic plan, which calls for price controls.
The TPPF take: Americans are working hard as they struggle to pay their bills.
“More Americans than ever are working two jobs, and it’s no mystery why,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “The fact of the matter is that inflation is caused by the big spending policies of the Biden-Harris Administration – too much money chasing too few goods. And the amount of federal spending the Biden-Harris administration injected into the U.S. economy in the ironically named Inflation Reduction Act was massive.”

If You Build It, …
What to know: Ford Motor Co. has scrapped plans for an all-electric SUV. They’re too expensive and drivers suffer from “road trip anxiety” about the vehicle’s range, NPR reports.
The TPPF take: Americans simply don’t want to be forced into electric vehicles.
“No matter how many subsidies and regulations the federal government pushes onto the market, consumers prefer gasoline’s convenience and reliability,” says TPPF’s Carson Clayton. “They are also waking up to the fact that EVs have not delivered on their highly anticipated environmental promise.”
