Ill-Gotten Gains

What to know: Fort Worth ISD’s academic performance has long been miserable, to the point that the district has been under a state takeover since October. Even still, Fort Worth ISD’s superintendent started the school year earning a $367,000 base salary, which “ranks 22nd statewide.”

The TPPF take: Why are superintendents getting paid so much when the results are so abysmal?

“Public service should not be a gateway to extreme wealth. Even if you disagree, there’s no rational basis to pay an administrator so much when academic performance is so poor,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Super-sized superintendent salaries need to be addressed next session. The system is entirely out-of-whack.”

What to know: A Texas gun club is challenging the federal ban on civilian possession of “machine guns.”

The TPPF take: The club is being represented by TPPF attorneys.

“The Temple Gun Club is suing the federal government over the post-1986 gun ban,” says TPPF’s Roy Maynard. “But it’s not a Second Amendment lawsuit; instead, it challenges the very foundation of the law—the U.S. Constitution’s Interstate Commerce Clause.”

They’re Not Real

What to know: More and more women are talking about their AI boyfriends, while actual men are being replaced.

The TPPF take: AI boyfriends aren’t real boyfriends.

“Over the past decade, much of the public square has migrated online,” says TPPF’s Hannah Bruck. “Conversations, friendships, and communities increasingly exist through screens and platforms. As our social lives have moved into digital spaces, it is perhaps unsurprising that artificial voices have entered those spaces as well. But something important risks being lost in the process.”
