Illegal and Wrong

What to know: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has warned state agencies that using “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) policies in hiring is illegal.

The TPPF take: DEI has been “manipulated to push policies that expressly favor some demographic groups to the detriment of others,” the governor’s memo points out.

“Texas colleges and universities are giving preferential hiring treatment (inclusion) to those who believe our country is driven by racism, white supremacy and a binary gender patriarchy,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Everyone else, especially those who espouse principles like merit, initiative, color-blindness and equality fall into the ‘white supremacist’ category. They are excluded.”

Criminal Cartels

What to know: Even leftist NPR now admits that criminal cartels based in Mexico are behind the flood of fentanyl and the deaths that follow in its wake.

The TPPF take: President Biden’s border policies are making the fentanyl crisis worse.

“When large groups of people illegally cross the border at once, Border Patrol agents are forced to send all of their resources to one area, freeing up other areas for cartels to send through drugs, weapons, and criminal illegal immigrants,” says TPPF’s Selene Rodriguez. “Neither the fentanyl crisis nor the border crisis are new. But both are worsened under the disastrous policies of the Biden administration.”

Children First

What to know: It’s time for a “Children First” agenda—and a rejection of the adults-first policies that made the pandemic so much harder on kids.

The TPPF take: Texas can lead the way by helping to protect children online.

“Texas should be the national leader on the issue of child online safety by taking the bold step of prohibiting social media use by minors,” says TPPF’s Zach Whiting. “States place age restrictions on numerous behaviors, such as driving, voting, smoking, drinking, and entering into a valid contract, among other things. This proposal would recognize social media as a prohibited harm to minors.”
