What to Know: New York City says it’s overwhelmed by the 1,500 or so illegal immigrants that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has sent there in the last few weeks. It’s now trying to house migrants in hotels.
The TPPF Take: Imagine what it’s like here in Texas, where we’ve been dealing with hundreds of thousands of migrants crossing our border illegally each month.
“Our southwestern border is being flooded by migrants from over 160 nations who are taking advantage of the administration’s blatant disregard for the laws on the books, which require detention and thorough adjudication before any granting of asylum,” says TPPF’s Ken Oliver. “Correcting the gross abuse and mismanagement of the U.S. asylum system is the single most important task that must be accomplished in order to end America’s worsening border crisis.”

What to Know: Is a state agency slow-walking required reforms ordered by the Texas Legislature?
The TPPF Take: The pace of reform was the subject of an interim committee hearing in the Texas House last week.
“The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) has not been quick to implement this legislatively required plan,” says state Rep. Candy Noble, R-Lucas. “The agencies are on notice. They may not ignore the direction they have been given in legislation. They need to make a clear and measurable effort to implement the legislative priority—as passed.”

The TPPF Take: That FBI raid should concern every American, even President Trump’s detractors.
“If the FBI can so easily obtain the right to raid Trump’s home based on nothing but a presumption, if not a personal or political agenda, what is left to protect you, your home, or your privacy?” asks TPPF’s Brett Tolman. “Fourth Amendment protections are fundamental, but whether this remains true will turn on every American demanding that the same extend to every American.”
