Isn’t That Illegal?

What to know: The FBI has declined to investigate election irregularities in Massachusetts, where videotaped evidence seems to show a man paying people to vote, and others dropping off homeless people at the polls.

The TPPF take: It’s time to restore Americans’ confidence in our election system.

“Election Administrators, policymakers, candidates, parties, and voters are in this together and each must do their part to have successful elections that are free and secure,” says TPPF’s Josh Findlay. “Election administrators should be transparent and improve the election process. This transparency is paramount to building voter confidence.”

If It Walks Like a Duck

What to know: Texas universities are “moving on” from diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) offices and programs, according to Houston Public Media. Or are they?

The TPPF take: Many universities are simply shuffling personnel and keeping the policies—under different names.

“Meaningless naming designed to obscure the true ideology is a critical component of the DEI playbook,” notes TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “On Texas campuses, word salad office names and titles are being exchanged for different word salad office names and titles.”

Child Tax Credit

What to know: A deal is in the works to preserve the child tax credit on individual income tax returns.

The TPPF take: The child tax credit is good policy.

“The child tax credit is not a handout,” says TPPF’s Andrew Brown. “It’s pro-family tax policy, wherein society recognizes the difficulty of raising children and takes a proactive step to alleviate a small portion of the overall burden in service of its future. For many, this small inducement can have a big impact.”
