It Worked
What to know: The New York Times reports how “Bus by Bus, Texas’ Governor Changed Migration Across the U.S.,” making the “political point that large-scale unauthorized immigration was leaving the country in a mess.”
The TPPF take: Abbott is sending migrants to self-proclaimed “Sanctuary Cities.”
“When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sends migrants to the cities that say they want them, those cities are suddenly confronted with the reality of their rhetoric; millions of people crossing the border illegally, needing services and support, can become economically unsustainable,” says TPPF’s Patricio Andrés Quinlan-Adame. “Texans have borne these costs for decades.”

Sparking Concerns
What to know: Most U.S. cities don’t have the right firefighting equipment to handle electric vehicle fires.
The TPPF take: Fewer drivers are interested in electric vehicles today than ever before, according to a new survey. A big part of the reason is that real costs—such as expensive firefighting equipment that taxpayers will have to buy—are hidden.
“Americans are beginning to realize that the sticker price of electric vehicles — made attractive by generous subsidies on the taxpayers’ dime — are pushing most of the cost down onto those who can least afford it,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Every EV sold places nearly $50,000 in additional costs on taxpayers.”

Quality Materials
What to know: The Thomas Fordham Institute is praising Texas public education, saying officials here understand the need for high quality instructional materials
The TPPF take: Texas state Rep. Brad Buckley, who chairs the House Committee on Public Education, recently sat down with TPPF’s Brian Phillips to discuss education reform—and high quality instructional materials.
“Teachers aren’t required to use the new material, but Buckley says those that have used it found it rewarding,” says Brian. “Buckley said parents will benefit from the new system, too—starting with transparency, a real concerns among Texas parents.”
