It’s a Start

What to know: Advocacy group PEN America reports “11,982 books banned in public schools, 2025-26 school year.” More than 8,000 of these “bans” were in Texas.

The TPPF take: The books in question have no business being promoted by public schools.

“The controversial books include ‘Gender Queer,’ a comic book-style memoir that has become the poster book for lefties who insist that children should be exposed to pretty much everything,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “It was in hundreds of schools in Texas. I read it before the numbers of kids identifying as non-binary sharply declined early this year, making it clear it was some kind of contagion, undoubtedly exacerbated by books like this.”

Property Rights

What to know: Do cities have the right to decide how property owners can use their land and homes? That’s the question in the Texas Supreme Court case, City of Dallas v. Dallas Short-Term Rental Alliance, et al. The city of Dallas is trying to prohibit leasing residential dwellings for fewer than 30 days.

The TPPF take: TPPF attorneys have filed an amicus brief in the case.

“The case raises questions about whether land-use restrictions are subject to meaningful judicial review under the Texas Constitution,” says TPPF’s Chance Weldon. “The brief argues that recent court decisions have adopted novel interpretations of the Texas Constitution that could make it virtually impossible for property owners to successfully challenge land-use restrictions.”

Not in Texas

What to know: The Associated Press claims that “Texas socialists are building a movement, one sandwich at a time.”

The TPPF take: Is that really happening? The truth is, the Democratic Socialists of America plan for immigration is the worst one yet.

“The Democratic Socialists of America want mass amnesty and an end to all immigration enforcement,” says TPPF’s Selene Rodriguez. “The White House Council of Economic Advisers released a new report last week estimating that the DSA’s immigration policies could cost Americans a whopping $440 billion to $613 billion over 10 years. And that’s not the worst of it. Allowing mass amnesty could create $36 billion to $47 billion in estimated annual costs for just SNAP, Medicaid, and HUD housing vouchers.”
