Living the Good Life

What to know: A recent investigation revealed that it pays very well to be a Conroe ISD administrator. For instance, the district’s superintendent received “a base salary of about $357,000 and roughly $62,500 in supplemental pay, bringing the superintendent’s total compensation to about $420,000.”

The TPPF take: Education elites are getting rich from public service. That’s wrong.

“Public service is supposed to be about helping the community, not personal gain. And yet, countless administrators are living the good life while taxpayers suffer,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “It’s long past time for the Texas Legislature to curtail this abuse and bring some sensibility to public sector salaries.”

Foreign Money Funding Hate

What to know: The Free Press reports that foreign contributions to U.S. colleges and universities funded antisemitism and violent campus protests.

The TPPF take: Texas and America’s enemies know that they can do lasting damage by influencing our education system.

“This is why billions of dollars have flowed into Texas schools over the past ten years, including $432 million from countries hostile to the United States,” says Jorge Borrego. “These hostile nations—China and Russia among them—aren’t simply making donations out of goodwill. They are leveraging their investments to gain influence and advance their agendas. The effects of this interference could be disastrous for Texas students and for our nation as a whole.”

Remittances

What to know: Latin American nations worry that remittances—money sent by illegal immigrants back to their home countries—will be taxed under President-elect Donald Trump.

The TPPF take: A tax on remittances from illegal aliens should be part of the Trump administration’s legislative package.

“A remittance tax on illegal aliens could offset a small portion of the costs borne by taxpayers,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “By targeting funds sent abroad by those circumventing legal pathways, the policy holds illegal aliens accountable without directly penalizing lawful residents.”
