Medical Malpractice

What to know: A 22-year-old UT-Austin student says she was pressured by medical providers to undergo a double mastectomy that she now regrets. She’s suing those providers.

The TPPF take: We are now seeing a slew of lawsuits over experimental treatments.

“We’re going to have several million children who were transitioned in this country, whose lives were ruined,” said pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Quentin Van Meter, talking with The Cannon Online. “The lawsuits will be huge. Drug makers will be shut down by judgments. Because it’s wrong.”

Disconnected

What to know: The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the “Universal Service Fund” that many Americans see on their phone bills is unconstitutional.

The TPPF take: The Universal Service Fund is unconstitutional under the nondelegation doctrine.

“This ruling is a victory for American consumers and the rule of law,” says TPPF’s Chance Weldon. “The FCC’s practice of allowing a private entity to tax citizens was an egregious overreach of governmental authority. Today’s decision reaffirms the fundamental principle that only Congress has the power to tax and that this power cannot be delegated away lightly.”

Broken Border

What to know: A migrant caravan is making its way through Mexico toward the southern U.S. border. Migrants say they want to enter the U.S. illegally before the November presidential election—just in case former President Donald Trump wins.

The TPPF take:  The Biden-Harris administration’s actions on the border have made the crisis worse, not better.

“By December 2020, the U.S. had the most secure border in the history of our nation, and a proven plan to continue improvements,” says TPPF’s Rodney Scott. “We had an overall decrease in entries and the highest level of situational awareness ever. But during the 2020 presidential campaigns, candidate Biden committed to ending the deterrence strategy and allowing more migrants into the country. Immediately following his inauguration, Biden fulfilled his campaign promise.”
