Monstrous

What to know: Writing in Real Clear Education, a former teacher lays out how she was instructed to hide students’ gender confusion—and use of other names or pronouns—from their parents: “I felt that this new policy forced me to betray parents’ trust.”

The TPPF take: Not in Texas anymore.

“Senate Bill 12—the Parents’ Bill of Rights—prohibits public schools from assisting children who try to present themselves as the opposite sex,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “The legislation was necessary because too many teachers seem to believe it is their job to help students hide their gender confusion from their parents. SB 12 is designed to prevent schools from enabling the delusion of students who say they are the opposite sex, including calling a boy Susan if his name is Bill.”

Education Reform

What to know: U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is doing just what President Donald Trump appointed her to do: “Clean out a failed education bureaucracy, return power to states and parents, and put students—not Washington politics—first.”

The TPPF take: Good riddance. Centralized control of education was never going to work.

“In education, the knowledge that matters differs from the ‘scientific’ knowledge that can be gathered in Washington,” says TPPF’s Kate Bierly. “It is the intimate, local, time-and-place knowledge held by parents, teachers, principals, and school boards. When the federal government tries to centrally plan schooling from thousands of miles away, it is attempting the very thing Hayek warned was impossible: replacing millions of decentralized decisions with a single bureaucratic plan.”

We Remember This

What to know: The former head of the Alamo Trust, Kate Rogers, is suing the state after she resigned over her wokeness.

The TPPF take: The Alamo’s legacy is worth protecting from the deconstructionists and wokesters seeking to undermine it.

“No surprise why the radical left has attacked the Alamo,” says TPPF’s Brian Phillips. “They know what it means to Texas, and in order push Texas in  more racial leftward way, they have to attack that baseline.”
