No Apologies

What to know: World leaders joined President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House last week to talk about peace.

The TPPF take: The scene was in stark contrast to former President Barack Obama’s apology tours.

“European leaders acknowledged Trump’s critical leadership in ending the war in Ukraine,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Italy’s president told Trump ‘something had changed’ since he got involved and Finland’s president said flatly that they would not be as far along as they are without Trump.”

Energy Prices

What to know: California’s electricity prices continue to outpace household incomes, a new report shows.

The TPPF take: California’s energy prices are the result of bad policies.

“Newsom blasts Trump and congressional Republicans’ Big Beautiful Bill for modestly cutting back on green energy subsidies, claiming it raises prices,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “On a per unit of energy basis, wind receives about 48 times the subsidies of oil and gas while solar nicks taxpayers for 168 times oil and gas. As for ‘raising the prices’ of electricity, what has California been doing for the past 20 years?”

Nuh-Uh!

What to know: The American Bar Association is defending its monopoly on approving law schools and legal education.

The TPPF take: The American Bar Association (ABA) has long held a stranglehold on accrediting U.S. law schools, including by forcing a law school to discriminate on the basis of race.

“Even in Texas, the ABA gets to decide which schools’ students can take the bar exam, a prerequisite to practicing law,” says TPPF law clerk Noah Pederson. “Entrusting a private, out-of-state organization with control over Texas legal education is problematic for three reasons: the ABA pushes politically biased standards, and it’s an unconstitutional delegation of power, and it imposes burdensome requirements.”
