No Guardrails
What to know: In the absence of federal regulation of artificial intelligence, states are stepping in with guardrails.
The TPPF take: The rapidly increasing implementation of AI begs the question: Who should regulate as it continues to grow?
“The conflict between consumer protection and competitive innovation is the driving force behind this dilemma, and Texas provides an excellent example of what good federal AI regulation should look like,” says TPPF intern Gabriel Higbie. “State-enacted laws offer a more effective and tailored approach to local problems and limitations; however, it’s clear that there is also an important role for the federal government in constructing nation-wide AI standards.”

Success at Ludicrous Speed
What to know: Even left-lurching USA Today acknowledges that President Trump’s immigration policies are working (though of course it found an “immigration advocate” who calls enforcement of the laws “ludicrous”).
The TPPF take: Trump’s immigration reset is lifting wages and forcing real economic reform.
“The better labor market for Americans, combined with low inflation, has also been driving up real wages, meaning wages adjusted for price changes,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “Under Biden, the average American’s weekly paycheck did rise substantially, by almost 20 percent, but prices spiked even faster. During Biden’s four years in office, real weekly paychecks bought about 4 percent less in purchasing power.”

DEI
What to know: The city of Dallas, under the threat of losing more than $300 million in federal funds, says it will end its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies and programs.
The TPPF take: DEI is a failure, and Americans have rejected it.
“Viewing the world through the DEI ideology requires pronouncing virtually everything that humans have accomplished since time began as the result of white supremacy, racism or colonialism,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “It rejects the principles of individual freedom and autonomy, science, research, advancement, inquiry and discovery. Their worldview is a dark place where everything humans value is proclaimed to be bad and everything human decency condemns as bad is said to be good.”
