No More Golden Parachutes
What to know: After recent controversy in Keller ISD, the Texas House is taking aim at golden parachutes for government employees. The chamber recently considered a pair of bills, HBs 610 and 762, to limit the size of any severance package for departing public employees.
The TPPF take: Some government employees are walking away with $1 million or more. It’s outrageous.
“Public service severance packages are wildly out control, with an elite few becoming millionaires for the simple act of leaving their position. This costly practice is hurting taxpayers, corroding public trust, and in some cases, depriving classrooms of needed funding,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “It’s for the Legislature to restore some measure of fiscal sanity here.”

Doctor Shortage
What to know: A small town in Florida is going to great lengths to attract a physician to town; it’s just one symptom of the nation’s ongoing doctor shortage.
The TPPF take: Texas has the opportunity to help address the physician shortage.
“Rather than wait on Congress to provide more general medical education (GME) appropriations, at least eight states, including Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, and Idaho, have decided to tackle the residency bottleneck through reforming licensing pathways,” says TPPF’s Nicholas Armstrong. “States are starting to allow talented foreign-licensed doctors to prove their merit, and if eligible be allowed to omit the U.S. based residency requirement—and Texas should be up next.”

On the Ropes
What to know: A professor at a Mexican university claims that President Donald Trump is damaging the U.S. relationship with Mexico.
The TPPF take: Trump has the corrupt Mexican regime on the ropes.
“The Mexican state routinely fails to give the respect to its neighbor that it loudly demands for itself,” says TPPF’s Joshua Treviño. “It partners with trafficking organizations that directly attack American sovereignty and citizenry with illegal mass migration, deadly fentanyl, and more. Unlike every previous American president of the modern era, Donald Trump understands this.”
