Not a Ringing Endorsement

What to know: Even investor Warren Buffett now tells young Americans that a college degree no longer means much, and that he hires based on talent and character, rather than academic credentials.

The TPPF take: Degrees still matter, but they’re not enough.

“College degrees clearly remain important and preferred,” says TPPF’s Maggie Horzempa. “But when graduates enter the workforce with obvious skill gaps, questions arise about practicality and alignment with employer needs. A glaring 69 percent of employers report that recent college graduates need a great deal or moderate amount of additional training upon hiring to be successful in their role.”

‘Cringefest’

What to know: The White House Correspondents’ Dinner has always been a “cringefest,” the Poynter Institute (a journalism think tank) acknowledges after the attack last week that targeted President Donald Trump and members of his administration.

The TPPF take: The Poynter Institute is right about that, at least.

“The White House Correspondents’ Dinner creates a platform for the lie that the legacy media still matter, even though their credibility has disappeared and trust in the press is at an all-time low,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “Trump should walk back his statement that the WHCD will be re-scheduled. This is a good time to just get rid of it.”

Sleepless in Seattle

What to know: Seattle’s new Mayor Katie Wilson, a socialist, laughed off the idea that raising taxes on high-earners will cause them to leave: “Bye,” she says.

The TPPF take: Americans vote with their feet, and they’re moving to states like Texas in droves.

“Low tax, limited government states, like Texas, are experiencing phenomenal population growth as more and more Americans flee states dominated by the radical Left. It’s further evidence that conservatism works—and it works well,” says TPPF’s James Quintero.
