Obamacare On Trial

What to know: The U.S. Supreme Court will soon issue its decision on the Affordable Care Act case (TPPF represents the individual plaintiffs).

The TPPF take: States, not the federal government, should be in charge of health care.

“If the ACA is declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, then it will be up to the states to create their own systems,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke, who argued the case. “Massachusetts’ solutions to the problems created by Obamacare might differ from Texas’ solutions, but that’s okay. The states should be free to experiment.”

Employee Empowerment

What to know: A bill that would have prevented Texas cities from enacting mandates on employers (such as paid sick leave) never got a final vote. It could be made part of an upcoming special session.

The TPPF take: These mandates hurt more than they help.

“Over the last few years, local governments, like Austin and San Antonio, have attempted to implement strict regulations, including mandated paid sick leave, hiring and scheduling practices, and fair chance hiring,” says TPPF’s Shelby Sterling. “Requiring private businesses to take on the regulatory hurdles and increased costs of such mandates will hurt businesses, employees, and consumers.”

Don’t Blame the Veep

What to know: Though she’s been tasked with fixing the border crisis, it’s not the fault of Vice President Kamala Harris that the border is now being overwhelmed with illegal immigration. It’s the fault of President Joe Biden.

The TPPF take: Why is the surge happening now? President Biden all but invited illegal migrants into the U.S.

“What changed is U.S. policy,” says TPPF’s Selene Rodriguez. “People were suddenly invited. Weak laws and open borders are the root cause. There is poverty and oppression, but far too many of these border crossings are simply migrants taking advantage of the federal government’s negligence — at the American people’s expense.”
