Pants on Fire
What to know: Dallas ISD wants voters to believe that it can borrow $6 billion, pay back $12+ billion, and it won’t cost homeowners anything extra. That’s a “pants on fire” level lie.
The TPPF take: New debt invites higher taxes. Massive new debt invites huge tax hikes.
“Dallas ISD—and all other local governments—have been gaming the Voter Information Document’s methodology for years, falsely claiming that new debt doesn’t cost a thing. Now, the situation has gotten absurd, with Dallas ISD alleging that it can borrow $6 billion, pay back $12+ billion, and it won’t raise any homeowner’s taxes,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “The next Texas Legislature must fix the Voter Information Document and get local governments to finally tell the truth about debt and taxes.”

Wealth Tax
What to know: California’s new “wealth tax” could end up costing the state $25 billion in lost revenue, new research finds.
The TPPF take: The wealthy are leaving for states that let them keep more of what they’ve earned.
“California is the epitome of the progressive left operational model, the blueprint for others to follow — and, home to San Francisco and UC Berkeley, the one place where democratic socialism might first work,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “California’s economic growth lagged behind that of the U.S. — and significantly behind its two prominent red-state rivals, Florida and Texas.”

Saving the Children
What to know: The U.S. Supreme Court sided with parents over trans activists—and a California law that let schools keep a student’s gender “transition” a secret from their parents.
The TPPF take: Texas is protecting parents’ rights at the state level.
“Senate Bill 12—the Parents’ Bill of Rights—prohibits public schools from assisting children who try to present themselves as the opposite sex,” says TPPF’s Sherry Sylvester. “The legislation was necessary because too many teachers seem to believe it is their job to help students hide their gender confusion from their parents. SB 12 is designed to prevent schools from enabling the delusion of students who say they are the opposite sex, including calling a boy Susan if his name is Bill.”
