Public Sector Payoffs

What to know: Astonishingly, former Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax walked away with a full year’s salary ($423,246) when he resigned from his position earlier this year. In addition, a new investigation reveals that Broadnax also received “$44,000 for unused vacation time.”

The TPPF take: Public sector elites are getting rich at taxpayer expense. And it’s wrong.

“No one should get rich from public service. And yet, there is an elite class of public servants raking in ungodly sums while in office and on their way out—and it’s all being funded by everyday taxpayers,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “We must get public sector compensation under control, lest tax bills continue to soar from all the local government largesse.”

Border Crisis

What to know: President Joe Biden caused the ongoing border crisis—and his new policies won’t help.

The TPPF take: The administration wants Americans to believe the border is secure. It isn’t.

“The No. 1 issue in America today is the crisis at the border, with some 10 million illegal immigrants crossing into the nation since President Biden reversed President Donald Trump’s border security policies on day one,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “But if you wished Biden would prioritize border security and out-of-control illegal immigration in what most of America hopes will be his penultimate State of the Union address, your wish was denied.”

Improving Our Schools

What to know: The Texas Education Agency has unveiled a new curriculum that will help ensure Texas children are ready for the future.

The TPPF take: Great teachers need a great curriculum to work from, and Texas is striving to provide that.

“Texans don’t just want their students to have a good education, they want it to be among the best in the nation,” says TPPF’s Greg Sindelar. “The new high-quality instructional materials are a major step toward realizing the potential of every child.”
