Republicans Can Fix the Border

What to know: As the border crisis rages on, with little effort from the Biden administration to truly fix it, Rep. Chip Roy and former Rep. Mayra Flores are laying out the policies House Republicans could pursue to force the president’s hand.

The TPPF take: If Biden will not act, then House Republicans must.

“We will never solve this border crisis if Congress is not willing to step in and fix the policies causing it. The Border Safety and Security Act is the single best policy we would put forward to do that today,” said TPPF Senior Fellow Mayra Flores.

A War for Taiwan

What to know: The Center for Strategic and International Studies released a war game exploring what an invasion of Taiwan by China would look like, and how U.S. intervention would play a role in keeping the nation free from Chinese rule. But the Biden administration has shown little urgency in preparing for such a possibility.

The TPPF take: Taiwan is vitally important to the world and the U.S., and the Biden administration policy lacks leadership.

“A Chinese takeover of Taiwan is fatal to America’s standing in the Pacific—the most important region to America in the 21st Century,” said TPPF Chief National initiatives Officer Chuck DeVore. “Republicans in Congress must do all they can to bolster the Biden administration stance on Taiwan, if we want to curb Chinese aggression.”

Texas, It’s Time

What to know: As states such as Arizona and Iowa embrace school choice and parental empowerment, Professor Alexander Salter discusses why Texas should follow suit.

The TPPF take: Parents deserve the ability to make the best educational decisions for their families.

“Students should not be stuck in government-assigned schools that don’t meet their needs,” said Mandy Drogin, campaign director for TPPF’s Next Generation Texas initiative. “The governor’s focus on transparency, high-quality public and private schools, along with respect for parents and their wishes, will ensure Texas is the freest, most prosperous, and best-educated state in the country.”
